If you or your child have hives, you probably want to know how to get rid of the quickly.

Hives are the result of an allergic reaction to a chemical, dust, smoke, food item, medication or any type of allergen. 

It is accompanied by severe itching and sometimes a stuffy nose, scratchy throat and other allergy symptoms.

Hives won’t immediately disappear after taking an antihistamine. So you can place ice or a cold towel on the area. The redness and swelling will surely subside after a few minutes. 

 

Try Calamine Lotion

Another way to get rid of hives is to use calamine lotion. Calamine is made of a chemical that soothes the skin. It will stop the itching, swelling and redness that comes with hives. 

Apply calamine liberally on affected skin. You can reapply if you need to.

As mentioned, hives can be controlled along with all other allergy symptoms when you practice strict allergy prevention. 

Get to know your allergies. It can be a food allergy, drug allergy or allergy from a chemical or environmental factors. Once you know what triggers you off, you must stay away from these allergens as much as possible.

Aside from learning ways to get rid of hives, preventing allergies at home is what really helps in the long run. 

  • Use an air purifier to remove dangerous particles of dust, pollen, hair and dander in your home. 
  • Keep your windows closed and doors shut during seasons when pollen is abundant in the air. 
  • Keep from smoke and other pollutants indoors and outdoors
  • If you need to go out, wear a mask or keep your nose and mouth covered. 

Only with strict prevention and care will you be able to control hives and win over your allergies for good.
